Trouble Starting Transaction Pro and/or Trouble Connecting to the QuickBooks Company File

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier or Enterprise)

When Transaction Pro Importer/Exporter/Deleter attempts to connect to a QuickBooks company file you get one of the following error messages:

Error: "Please start QB and open your company file before continuing"          

Error: “Automation error The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.” 

Error: “This application has not accessed this QuickBooks company data file before. The QuickBooks administrator must grant an application permission to access a QuickBooks company data file for the first time.” 

Error: “QuickBooks found an error when parsing the provided XML text stream”

Please follow these steps to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Ensure that you have QuickBooks installed, your company file is open, and we recommend that you login to QuickBooks as the Administrator.
  2. When prompted by QuickBooks give Transaction Pro permission to access the QuickBooks company file whenever it is open ("Yes, whenever this company file is open")
  3. Check that you meet the minimum systems requirements to use Transaction Pro Importer/Exporter System Requirements.

Error: "Please start QB and open your company file before continuing" 

If you are using Microsoft Vista or 7, please ensure that you have User Account Control (UAC) set to On or Always Notify, and check that Transaction Pro Importer/Exporter is logged into the QuickBooks file at the Admin permission level.

 Ensure that both QuickBooks and Transaction Pro are not being started with the shortcut security tab option "Run as Administrator. The QBSDK requires non elevated Windows permissions for both products and this box must not be checked.

If you are using QuickBooks 2011 or 2012 be sure that the Quick Startup feature is disabled. Applications that use the QBSDK cannot be used when this feature is enabled. To disable this feature, in QuickBooks click Edit/Preferences, select the General Preferences tab and uncheck the box labeled Keep QuickBooks running for quick startups.

 Error: “Automation error The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.”

 You need to change your (Data Execution Prevention) DEP settings in Windows Server, Vista or 7

  1.   Go to System Properties
  2.   Select Advanced Tab
  3. Click Performance Settings button
  4. Select the Data Execution Prevention tab 
  5. Select the first option “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”. 
  6. Or Select the second option and adding the Transaction Pro Importer file by clicking Add then selecting the file C:\Program Files\01 Transaction Pro Importer 5.0\Transaction Pro Importer 5.0.exe

 Error: “This application has not accessed this QuickBooks company data file before. The QuickBooks administrator must grant an application permission to access a QuickBooks company data file for the first time.”

 You need to have the QuickBooks Admin user login to the company file. QuickBooks integrated applications (such as TPI) need the Admin user to grant permission to the company file the first time the utility is run. This allows the program to have the correct permissions to read and write transactional data to the QuickBooks data file.

1. Go to your QB file (logged in as the admin user in single user mode)
2. Click Edit/Preferences - Select Integrated Application.
3. Click the Company Preferences tab
4. Remove the application named "Baystate Consulting" (if present)
5. Click OK
6. Restart Transaction Pro (be sure the QB admin is still logged into the company file as they need to give permission to the company before the user can subsequently login). A popup window will appear in QuickBooks asking to allow this application to access this company file. Make sure you choose "Yes, whenever this company file is open". If you are using QB in a multi-user environment, select the Admin user as the user that TPI uses to connect to QB.

 Error: “QuickBooks found an error when parsing the provided XML text stream”

 First make sure you meet the system requirements here. The first step is to reinstall the version of QuickBooks you are running. In most cases this resolves the issue. Note that if you are running US and non US versions of QuickBooks on the same machine this will also cause this issue. It is not possible to run both US and non US versions on the same machine. The same is true for attempting to run older versions of UK/CA/AU with current versions. If you continue to receive this error after reinstalling QuickBooks then you may have a damaged QBSDK on the machine. Follow these steps to repair this issue.

1.      Delete the following folder: C:\program files\common files\Intuit\QuickBooks (Note you may need to first stop the process QBW32.exe and qbUpdate.exe and QBCFMonitorService.exe via Windows Task
Manager)

 Reboot.
3.
 Re-install QuickBooks.
4. Re-install Transaction Pro

Determining if the issue is a corrupt QuickBooks interface or Transaction Pro

1. Download, install and run the SDK Diagnosis Tool to determine if the problem is QuickBooks or a Transaction Pro issue.
2.  If you are unable to connect with the SDK Diagnosis Tool then it may be because your QuickBooks interface files may have been overwritten or corrupted. Please follow the instructions under Error: “QuickBooks found an error when parsing the provided XML text stream” clean up your installation.
